Remember the Sabbath

Israel's redemption will begin when the "lost sheep" of the House of Israel begin to keep God's Sabbath:

1This is what the Lord says:
Observe what is right and do what is just;
For soon My salvation shall come,
And my deliverance be revealed.
2Happy is the man who does this,
The man who holds fast to it:
Who keeps the Sabbath and does not profane it,
And stays his hand from doing evil.
[Isaiah 56:1-2]

In this passage God tells us that salvation shall come to those who keep the Sabbath. It was Israel's profaning of the Sabbath that caused the House of Israel's fall from grace in the first place. Violating the Sabbath command is one of the most often repeated indictments against the House of Israel:

15However, I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land flowing with milk and honey, the fairest of all lands, which I had given to them, 16for they rejected My rules, disobeyed My laws, and profaned My Sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols. 17But I had compassion on them and did not destroy them, nor did I make an end of them in the wilderness.
18I warned their children in the wilderness, Do not follow the practices of your fathers, do not keep their ways, and do not defile yourselves with their idols: 19I am the
Lord your God: Follow My laws and be careful to observe my rules. 20Keep My Sabbaths holy, that they may be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God. 21But the children rebelled against Me: they did not follow My laws, and did not faithfully observe My rules, which if a person does, he will have life by them; they profaned My Sabbaths. Then I resolved to pour out My fury upon them, to vent all My anger upon them in the wilderness. 22But I held back My hand and acted for the sake of My name, that it might not be profaned in the sight of the nations before whose eyes I had led them out. 23However, I swore to them in the wilderness that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them through the lands, 24because they had not obeyed My rules, but rejected my laws, profaned My Sabbaths, and looked with longing to the idols of their fathers. [Ezekiel 20:15-24]

God seems to put a lot of importance on the Sabbath, for the Sabbath command is the only command that begins with the word "REMEMBER."

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. [Exodus 20:8]

The House of Judah (Judaism) always kept the Sabbath holy, but the House of Israel (Christianity) has always profaned it.  The House of Israel will not be redeemed until they return to the God of their fathers and begin to live by his every word.  This is especially true about keeping the Sabbath because the Sabbath is a special sign between God and his people.

16Therefore, the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a perpetual covenant. 17It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. [Exodus 31:16-17]

Every journey begins with a single step. Keeping the Sabbath is the first step toward salvation.  Remember the words of Messiah Joshua ben Joseph [Jesus] when he said:

21"Not every one who says to me, 'Lord, Lord!' will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who do what my Father in heaven requires. 22On that Day, many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord! Didn't we prophesy in your name? Didn't we cast out demons in your name? Didn't we do many miracles in your name?' 23Then I will tell them to their faces, 'I never knew you. Get away from me, you who violate the Torah.'" [Matthew 7:21-23]

Also look at what John says:

He that says, I know him, but does not keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. [1 John 2:4]

Chapters 3 & 4 of the book of Hebrews is all about the Sabbath:

3:1Therefore brothers, whom God has set apart to share in the heavenly calling, think carefully about Yeshua, whom we acknowledge publicly as the emissary and cohen gadol. 2Who was faithful to him that appointed him, just as Moshe was in all his house. 3For this man was counted worthy of more honor than Moshe, just as the builder of a house has more honor than the house.   4Every house is built by someone, but it is God who built everything.
5Surely, Moshe was faithful in all his house, as a servant, giving witness of things that would be spoken later. 6Mashiach, on the other hand, was faithful as a son over his own house; which house we are if we hold firmly to the courage and confidence inspired by what we hope for.
7Thus, as the Ruach HaKodesh says,

Today, if you will hear his voice, 8do not harden you hearts, as in the provocation when you tested your God in the wilderness: 9Yes, your fathers tested me and challenged me and saw my works for forty years. 10Therefore, I was disgusted with that generation, and said, “Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not understood my ways.” 11In my anger I swore, “They will not enter into my rest.”

12Watch out brothers, so that there will not be in any of you an evil heart of infidelity leading you to depart from the living God.  13Instead, exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; so that none of you will be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14For we have become sharers with Mashiach if we hold firmly to the conviction that we began with right through to the end.

15While it is said,

Today, if you will hear his voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the provocation.

16For some, when they had heard, did provoke; however, not all who came out of Egypt with Moshe. 17With whom, then, was he disgusted for forty years? Wasn't it with those who sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness?  18To whom did he swear that they would not enter into his rest, but to them who were disobedient?  19So we see that they could not enter in because of unfaithfulness.

4:1Therefore, let us be terrified by the possibility that, even though the promise of entering his rest remains, any one of you might be judged to have fallen short of it. 2For the good news was preached to us, just as it was to them.  But the message that was preached to them did not do them any good because they that heard it were not faithful. 3We who are faithful, however, do enter into rest.  It is as he has said, "As I have sworn in my wrath, they will not enter into my rest" even though the plan was set from the foundation of the world.
      4
But he spoke, in a certain place about the seventh day in this way, "And God rested on the seventh day from all his work." 5And again, in the previous place, "They will not enter into my rest." 6Look! The fact remains that some must enter into his rest, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter into it because of unfaithfulness.  7Again, he appoints a certain day, saying through David, "Today," so long afterward, as it is said, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts." 8If Joshua had given them rest, then he would not have spoken afterward of another day.
9So it remains that God's people must keep the Sabbath [Greek: sabbatismos]. 10For the one who enters into God's rest has also rested from his own works, just as God did from his. 11Let us therefore diligently enter into that rest so that no one will fall short because of the same kind of disobedience.

12For the word of God is alive and powerful, and sharper than any double-edged sword. It pierces through, cutting apart the life and spirit and joints and marrow and judges the innermost thoughts and intents of the heart.  13There is nothing in creation that he does not see, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

14Therefore, since we have a great high priest, who has passed into the heavens, Yeshua, the son of God, let us hold firmly to what we know is true.  15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, since he was tempted in every way that we are -- though he did not sin. 16Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and favor to help in time of need. [Hebrews 3 & 4]

Notice that Hebrews 3:7b-11 quotes from Psalm 95.  Psalm 95 is the first of six psalms that are read on Erev Shabbat (at the beginning of the Sabbath).

One who is truly repentant will turn from sins and begin to obey God. Many Christians who think that they are saved are sadly mistaken because salvation requires redemption and redemption requires t'shuva (repentance: returning to God).  The first step toward t'shuva is the observance of the Sabbath.
